Integration of Chinese Medicine, Applied Kinesiology and Naturopathy

In 1999 I established my Acupuncture practice in (Hollywood District) North East Portland. After a few more years of working with patients I began to encounter ailments for which Acupuncture was not able to provide a complete treatment. During this time, I was looking for a way to get my Chinese medicine knowledge and my Western physical medicine knowledge to be used more synergistically. It was at this time that I was introduced to the discipline of Applied Kinesiology (AK).

Applied Kinesiology is a system that evaluates structural, chemical and mental aspects of health using manual muscle testing with other standard methods of diagnosis. I can honestly say I walked away from my first series of treatments a different person. AK sought to incorporate the exact principles I had been applying in my practice and took it a step further incorporating muscle testing and medical diagnosis.
Since my introduction to AK I've participated in a number of AK training seminars and am working towards fulfilling the requirements and board examinations to become a Diplomate of International Board of Applied Kinesiology (DIBAK). Before long I began to see the benefits that a Naturopathic Education could provide my patients, particularly in combination with Chinese Medicine and Applied Kinesiology.

After a few years of practicing acupuncture and AK I set out to complete my ND degree; determined to integrate the three modalities into my approach to treatment. Naturopathic Medicine gave me a more in depth perspective and understanding of physiology, prescription medications and their interactions in the body and diagnostic tools such as x-ray, and blood tests. Using a combination of the three disciplines enables me to better treat and interpret the body's needs.
